About Us
Our Story
Unsheltered Tortoise and Turtle was founded in 2023 by a Registered Veterinary Technician who is passionate about shelled creatures and saw the need for a turtle wildlife care rescue in the local area. Since then, we have have rehabilitated multiple turtles in need. We are a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit located in Huntersville, NC just north of Charlotte. We also take in tortoises that need a sanctuary home.
Education & Private Tours
Part of our mission is community education and involvement. We provide private tours and can also speak at local events/schools. To schedule something, please send us a message through the website or connect with us via social media.
Community Garden
Our founder was diagnosed with Crohn's disease back in 2006 and learned how important healthy eating is for the body. As such, it's important to have access to fresh foods and learn how to grow them. We have 20 raised garden beds for the community to grow together, learn from each other, teach the next generation and further build connections.
