Santa is Coming!!
Shells, Santa & Sunshine
Ready to meet the tortoises? Come shellebrate Christmas in July with Santa, turtles & tortoises on Saturday July 18th at Unsheltered Tortoise & Turtle in Huntersville, NC.
You'll have a chance to meet multiple tortoises and box turtles, learn fun facts and find out how you can help! For some added fun, wear turtle themed or Christmas themed attire. Santa will be here to shellebrate since December is typically too cold for the tortoises. Open to all ages.

About Us
Our Story
Unsheltered Tortoise and Turtle was founded in 2023 by a Registered Veterinary Technician who is passionate about shelled creatures and saw the need for a turtle wildlife care rescue in the local area. Since then, we have have rehabilitated multiple turtles in need. We are a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit located in Huntersville, NC just north of Charlotte. We also take in box turtles and tortoises that need a sanctuary home.
Education & Private Tours
Part of our mission is community education and involvement. We provide private tours (great for home school groups) and also speak at local events/schools. To schedule something, please send us a message through the website or connect with us via social media.
Community Garden
Our founder was diagnosed with Crohn's disease back in 2006 and learned how important healthy eating is for the body. As such, it's important to have access to fresh foods and learn how to grow them. We have 20 raised garden beds for the community to grow together, learn from each other, teach the next generation and further build connections.
Eastern Box Turtle Rehab
We take in injured wild box turtles, fix them up and release them back to the area where they were found. If their injuries are too great that they would not survive back in the wild, they have a sanctuary home with us.
If you find a box turtle, check it out to make sure it isn't injured and then let it continue about it's life. They are wild animals and should remain in the wild if possible.
